Join us for the 2012 Water's Edge Triathlon at Smith Lake, (north of Algona, Iowa).

This sprint tri event will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012.
Sign up by June 1 for an early bird discount. Registration fees increase after this date.

The Water's Edge Triathlon is a great event for both experienced racers and those who are new to the sport. We hope you join us!

PACKET PICK UP & RACE DAY INFO

Friday, June 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Water's Edge Nature Center. Registration and Packet Pickup will be held in the Nature Center, which is across Smith Lake from where the transition area and shelter house are lcoated.

Saturday, June 16 from 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the Shelter House close to the race area. Walk up registrations will not be allowed at this time; packet pickup only. All racers will need to pick up their chip and get body numbered during this time.

Pre-race meeting at 7:45 a.m. Race organizers will review the race course, plus a few commonly broken rules, and answer questions as needed. The pre-race meeting is required for all competitors.

Race begins at 8 a.m. The swim is first and will begin in two waves, with men first, followed by women and teams.

Awards will be held after all competitors finish the race. Typically, the awards ceremony is held between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

COURSE DETAILS

500 Meter Swim  -  is held in the waters of Smith Lake. Safety personnel will be on hand at the lake at all times in boats and/or canoes. Wetsuits will be permitted without penalty if water temperature is 78 degrees or colder. Wetsuits are not allowed if water temperture is greater than 84 degrees. Competitors will be allowed to wear wetsuits if temperature is between 78 and 84 degrees, but those who do will not be eligible for awards. The water temp historically has been between 74 and 77 degrees, but it may be colder this year since the race will be in June instead of July.

21 K Bike  -  (13.1 miles) is a mostly flat out and back course with a few rolling hills.  The route follows paved county roads B30 and P30.  All bikers must have an ANSI approved helmet to participate.  Bikers without helmets will not be allowed on the race course.  No drafting allowed. No headphones, iPods, etc are allowed on the race course for either biking or running.

5 K Run  -  (3.1 miles) is an off-road course on the trails around the perimeter of Smith Lake.  One water station will be available along the course.
